Pathways to Planning and Impact are graduate schemes that enable graduates to get their start in local government and the public sector. Graduates get a full-time role in a local council or public body, and are supported as they complete a fully-funded postgraduate qualification. The two graduate schemes are a fast-track route for bright and passionate individuals who want to make a difference while excelling in their careers. They offer the chance to work directly with communities, but also to influence and drive policies, projects, and plans. The schemes recruit graduates from all backgrounds and degrees, and offer over 400 roles in over 100 councils and public bodies each year. Pathways to Planning recruits graduates into roles as surveyors and planners, where they play a key role in creating safe, inclusive and beautiful public spaces. On Impact, graduates rotate through 3-4 different placements, gaining a wide range of skills and experience. No prior knowledge is required for either graduate scheme – they will learn everything needed on the job. Impact offers participating graduates a fully-funded Level 7 qualification in Leadership & Management. Graduates on Pathways to Planning study for a fully-funded master’s degree, in a subject chosen by their employer, which will match the work they are undertaking. Both schemes provide mentorship and the opportunity to network and learn from fellow graduates and experts. The schemes give graduates the expertise to progress to more senior roles in local government, planning, and surveying. Partner employers have a vested interest in seeing graduates succeed. The sector is facing challenges in an ever-changing world, and needs people with fresh ideas and passion. Graduates are supported, and gain resilience alongside their like-minded cohort.
