The award-winning Fast Stream is a leadership and management development programme that equips talented graduates with the knowledge, skills, experience and networks to build a meaningful career and operate effectively across the Civil Service. Spanning a diverse range of professions, the Fast Stream is designed to help accelerate career progression within the Civil Service. There is no typical fast streamer. The programme welcomes individuals of all ages, cultures and backgrounds, to ensure the Civil Service reflects the diverse communities it serves. The Fast Stream is increasingly offering opportunities across the UK, with an ambition for 50% of postings to be outside of London by 2030. While the programme welcomes graduates from across all degree subjects and backgrounds, the Civil Service is keen to attract more people with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) degrees. STEM graduates are crucial to realising the vision of building a skilled, innovative and ambitious Civil Service equipped for the future. Offering career opportunities in England, Scotland and Wales, each scheme offers high-quality training and on-the-job learning. Fast streamers gain a breadth of experience across a range of placements. They build practical skills and put their knowledge into practice across various government departments, helping to drive forward government operational services and policies. A range of Fast Stream networks provide a strong sense of community, offering fast streamers the opportunity to build lasting professional networks. Fast streamers are valued members of the wider Civil Service community. They work across different government departments every day to make a difference in every community, and to support the Government in delivering its agenda.
