At DLA Piper, trainees define the impact they make, and the firm invites them to help shape the future of law. They offer a three-and-a-half-week summer internship programme, which begins with a three-day induction event held in the DLA Piper London office, followed by three-weeks of working in two practice groups at a chosen office location. The firm recruits interns into the following UK offices: Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, and Manchester. Applicants can apply for the programme regardless of degree background. Law students must be a second-year student on a three-year course, or a third-year student on a four-year course; non-law applicants must be in their final year of study or already graduated. Successful completion of the summer internship will result in a place on DLA Piper’s international training programme, where trainees are sponsored to attend a Masters level preparatory course which includes the SQE1 and SQE2 examinations – which are required to qualify as a solicitor. For non-law degree joiners a law conversion course will be sponsored before the SQE preparatory course. Trainees will start a two-year programme by participating in the international training programme induction week held in London. Across the two-year programme, trainees undertake four, six-month rotations within DLA Piper’s practice groups. There are plenty of opportunities for client and international secondments, as well as continual learning and development with training sessions and a strong support network of supervisors and buddies.
