Right now, there are children in this country who won’t get the education they deserve. It’s not okay and it’s not fair. Since 2003, Teach First have been improving the life chances for children living in disadvantaged communities by training brilliant teachers to work in the schools that need them the most. Graduates have many career options ahead of them, but few are more meaningful than teaching. For 20 years, Teach First has been fighting to give every child the chance to fulfil their potential. It begins with getting great teachers into the schools that need them the most. Teach First’s Training Programme is the largest teacher training and leadership programme in the UK. It offers graduates a competitive salary while they train and opens the door to a world of career possibilities. Over two years, they’ll qualify as teachers, gain a fully-funded qualification, receive professional coaching worth over £10k, and develop an array of transferable leadership skills. From their first day in the classroom, trainees make an instant impact on the lives of young people, in a role where no two days are the same. With support from Teach First, trainees are seven times more likely to progress into leadership roles early in their careers. The charity has an influential network of 17,750 + teachers and leaders, both inside and outside the classroom, as well as links to a range of organisations, many of which offer trainees extra opportunities to hone their leadership skills through coaching and summer projects. From day one trainees will be in the classroom, starting with 80% of a fully qualified teacher’s timetable (60% for primary and early years). The challenge is real, but so is the chance to create lasting change. This is the most important generation of teachers and leaders, joining Teach First to fight for a fairer future.
